islambeauty: yourhijabi: akio: umalik: One thing which absolutely boil my blood is sight of the parents who have a young nanny with them every where. This nanny often just 10-12 year old would be from the lowest economic strata of the society, and will lead a confused life sitting a table away from the couple who has hired her. In this particular case I can clearly see the kid reaching to his nanny more than his mother. More on this later but for now, why would you have unprotected sex and give birth to a child when u can’t even take care of him/her? (mobile) Having maid and nanny - it’s a tradition still alive in wide, many regions - and will remain intact for a long time.  New waves of affluence arrived in South Asia and MENA etc didn’t get channeled to do something about these traditions I guess.  Japan basically doesn’t have this tradition.  So every time I see and hear about this - I have to think about large civilizational difference, and how that’d affect the course of further progress/modernization etc of societies and people’s culture in those regions.  I see this everyday-actually during Ramadan once i saw this family refusing this one maid to eat at the restaurant for iftaar since they didn’t want to pay for her..It is sad..and many of the maids are abused verbally and physically.I have had maids in the past-yeah very common in the Middle east but when i hear stories of maids being abused i feel real sick.Some maids in the UAE have committed suicide because of the treatment.  I was reased in a society ( Europe ) where a concept of a maid doesn’t really exist, it’s reserved for really,really rich people and those maids are paid high salaries aswell. When I came to UAE, I’ve noticed having a maid is custom for most of the families, but I still haven’t used to it. It’s just a weird concept to me, leaving your kids to someone else, someone cleaning and cooking for you, and so on. I don’t know how they feel about it, but I would never let anyone, aside from my family, to cook, especially if they are not Arab. On the other hand, the treatment of maids here is really disgusting, they have to sit alone, do almost everything for the families they maid for, sometimes I even see a bunch of kids being handled by one tiny, small maid who’s probably 15 years old or something. And I’ve heard of the abuse, the stories I’ve heard are disgusting. Honestly, I can’t really grasp that concept, I can understand having a nanny, but not in a way that you let your kids out of your sight for all day. Later, those parents complain when their kids won’t listen to them and show unrespectful behavior. Once I stated that I’ll never have a maid, that I’ll deal with my kids and my family alone, even the cleaning part, and all I got was weird looks and claiming that I was weird. But, I can’t ever feel comfortable knowing that I’m paying someone to clean, cook, and take care of my kids for me. By the way, the payment is horrible, it’s not even human. This is one of the bad sides of UAE and some Gulf countries. In Syria, people have never heard of such a concept and the women are too proud to let others take care of their households. I wish people wouldn’t recklessly get into marriage and having children at such a young age that they can’t handle taking care of everything. It shocks me sometimes, when I realize that I go to the uni with the girls same age as me (19) who are married and have children. And they spend all day at the uni. Who raised the child? A maid, of course.
